  Urban Ants
by: Amanda
Urban ants were found at Manhattan sidewalks (NYC)
Researchers have noticed when a person threw bits of crumbs or cookies the ants will then come and carry it away.

Ants love junk food especially sugar, meat and processed food. Ants love junk food when it’s thrown on the sidewalk.
Ants  love to eat junk more than their actual diet which are insects.  Sometimes ants have tendency to eat each other if there is nothing to eat.

Unusually ants are supposed to stick to their diet but ants would prefer to eat human junk food.

Smart watches in the University
by: Caitlyn

On May 13 2015, Michael Clarke, a student in one of New Zealand Universities and the Association President of the Universities Rory McCourt, didn't want smart watches in universities during test. Students are believed to cheat by using the internet. This took place at Massey University.

They have been planning not to have smart watches in test due to fear of cheating during test through viewing the internet and getting answer from it. In the future, I think that smart watches will not be around.

EARTHQUAKEScreenshot 2015-05-13 at 12.17.30 PM.png
Did you know New Zealand has lots of earthquakes because we are on the earthquake plate. On 4th September 2010 at 4:35am in Christchurch, there was an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1. On 22nd February 2011 at 12:51pm there was an aftershock of a magnitude of 6.3. This earthquake caused devastating aftershock that killed 182 people. Even though the aftershock was 0.8 less than the first earthquake, the aftershock was more deadly because of the time it happened on a busy weekday . The aftershock was at 12:51pm not a good one when crazy drunk people were all over the streets. While the first earthquake killed nobody because it was at 4:35am where people are sleeping, going home from the bar or going home after the night shift.

Liquefaction is when soil, which is solid, is shaken so hard that it loses its strength and behaves like a liquid. In some areas of Christchurch, the soil is soft and sandy. When the earthquake struck, water forced its way to the surface, weakening the ground under.

Earth's rocky outer layer is divided into huge segments, called plates. These plates move very slowly, traveling a few centimeters a year. When two plates push against each other, pressure builds in the earth's crusts near the boundary. An earthquake occurs when the crusts breaks and the rock on either side of this fault line suddenly moved, causing the ground to shake.

Negative Ebola Test For NZ Nurse

by: Lies

The nurse that returned back from Sierra Leone was suspected of carrying the disease of Ebola. The nurse was originally from Gore. She was one of the members in the New Zealand team who was sent to Sierra Leone. They were concerned about her health when she came back to New Zealand. This took place on the 11th of March which was on a Wednesday.

rsz_snpa261006411The nurse came back after dealing with patients suffering from dreadful disease of Ebola, her blood tests came back negative meaning that she had no sign of Ebola. What a relief for her and for New Zealand.

When she arrived on the 11th of March, she was taken to the Christchurch Hospital unit where she was tested. Her blood was tested to see if she caught the disease. The nurse’s blood was then sent to Melbourne. Melbourne sent it back saying that the tests showed she had no sign of Ebola in her blood.

New Zealand is a small country that is surrounded by many seas, most likely an isolated country. A safe country anyone could live in because there isn’t much poisonous objects, no deadly pests and diseases.

In the future, Ebola might still be a disease that people suffer but if many people are actively helping out today, then the future might just be what many people would want. No Ebola.

It is rare that someone taking care of a patient with Ebola has no sign of Ebola.

Walking with Jesus

Luke 24: 17-35
The Emmaus Story- we wrote a reflection on the Emmaus story.  We pondered and reflected on these following questions-
Where are we going to?  Where do we come from?  Are we alone?  Who is with us on the journey?  Who will guide us?  Are we going in the right direction?    Questions that each and every one of us has to face because we are on a journey.
