Water clock experiment

Materials:

Beaker

Pin

Plastic cups

Bowl

Water
Bottle

Instructions:

  • First you must find a beaker and a plastic cup.
  • Get a pin and poke the bottom of the plastic cup.
  • After poking a hole find a flat surface to put your experiment on top of the table.
  • Get a camera to film and a timer to time your experiment.
  • Set the timer to 15 minutes.
  • Fill the cup with water.
  • Put the cup with a hole on top of the beaker and start the timer and  the camera at the same time.

  • Do the same experiment for second and third attempts.
  • Write the results of all the trials.
  • If  all attempts have the same measurements then you have done it right, if not them you have to take the average of all attempts or trials.

Book Review

Book review time---these are the books children have been reading.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix
This is Harry’s fifth adventure with his two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger back at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry, Hermione and Ron are in their fifth year now which means hard work and more mysterious things happening at Hogwarts. As they have their welcome back feast Dumbledore introduces a new teacher that is from the Ministry Of Magic named Dolores Umbridge who is allowed to make rules for all the students and can dismiss teachers she does not like.  But she can’t banish them from the grounds which means she can’t take them away from Hogwarts. As they work and learn potions and magic Harry is about to discover something that will turn Hogwarts upside down.
I recommend this book to ages 10-16 because it is a thick book and has few words suitable for mature readers, for people that are in a higher level in reading and for people who love magic and mysteries.

The Pearl

BY:  Amy

‘The Pearl’ written by John Steinbeck is a novelette about a man named Kino. He has a wife, Juana and a baby son, Coyotito. The family of three has experienced many dangerous and tragic events in life and this happened after Kino found  the ‘Pearl of the World’.

The author wrote this book ‘The Pearl’ for a reason. The author wanted to tell us that wealth isn’t the solution to all problems. When Kino found the ‘Pearl of the World’, he thought that the pearl would lead him to a successful life and good fortune. But the pearl lead him to a very dangerous life because everybody envied the pearl, so they tried to steal it from them.

I recommend this book to ages 10 and over. This book is very interesting.  Kino had visions about the pearl that his son could read and he and his wife would be married in the church. I encourage you to read this book because the story used many similes, metaphors and exaggerations.

World of wishes
Ballerina Wishes
by: Mikayla
This story is about this ballerina who is in trouble. Her theater is in danger and her dance partner has vanished. To find her dance partner they must go to the frozen north and battle magic spells. Can Maddie and Sebastian find their dance partner? Will her wish come true? I rate this book a 9.5 and I recommend this book for ages 9-12 because it had many chapters. If I had to describe this book in one word I would say it is AMAZING!

Life Education: Brainy Bunch

The Life Education van was in CTK last week. Welcome back Harold and Jesse.

Our class was learning about personal growth and development, and the main learning focus was the brain. Our brain is the central nervous system that controls all we do.  The big questions, we have to learn and explain--
  • How can the brain influence our feelings and the way we act?
  • How do we change as we get older?

Mary McKillop of the Cross

We have been learning about Mary MacKillop’s life journey before she became a nun and also about her religious mission work in Australia and New Zealand.  She set up many schools and founded a religious order of Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. She believed that all children should have good education no matter how rich or poor. Christ the King Catholic School is one of the schools she set-up.

How to use toilets 2

We are learning to write an explanation on how to use toilets.  This is one of the fundamental things we do in life, yet people are embarrassed to explain on how we use them.  Think about it, aren’t toilets an amazing invention. Read our class explanation.  Write and leave us comment/s, we love to hear on what you think about our work.

How to use the toilet
by: Liezl

Many people go in and out of the toilets. But how do we, humans use the toilets? Well, this is usually the biggest question of a baby. That’s why they need to be potty trained! Let’s say you’ve finished all your potty training and your mother tells you to go to the toilet by yourself. You close and lock the door, just like how you were told. You face to see the toilet and you ask yourself “How do I use that thing?”

Toilets are especially made for humans to do their business. This is part of their daily routine in life. Well, firstly you’d have to make sure the toilet is clean because who knows used the same toilet? Anyways, you’d have to sit down on the toilet bowl and obviously you’d have to pull down your pants first! While you’re sitting you’d have to be comfortable and  make sure there are no places where any of your waste could go through or else you’d wet yourself. And you wouldn’t want that right?

When you have finished doing your business, you’d have to wipe yourself and the place around you with toilet paper. Would you want to use the same toilet as someone who hadn’t cleaned it? Using toilet paper to clean is keeping the toilet/cubicle clean and doing an act of kindness for the next person.

Do I wash my hands now? No not yet. You’d have to flush the toilet because it is hygienic and it also keeps the toilet clean even more! But where is the flush?  The flush is a button at the top of the toilet. It triggers the water to go down and wash out your waste.

When you wash your hands, you’d have to wet your hands under the faucet. After that, you grab some soap and rub it between your 2 hands. And guess what? Bubbles and foam magically appear from the eecky soap that once was on your hand. Sadly, the bubbles and foam won’t stay long for you’d have to run your hands under the water Again!! Lastly, you’d have to dry your hands with paper towels but you shouldn’t waste all of them because you have to be generous, remember.

That’s how you use the toilet!

Girl Guide To: How To Use A Public Toilet
by: Kaydence

Have you ever wondered about a public toilet or what to do when you are busting and you are out in public? Well this happens quite often so that’s why I am here to tell you how to use a toilet properly and what to do in Toilet EMERGENCIES!

First, you have to find a toilet. Have you ever went to the park or to the shops and all of a sudden you needed to go toilet! But all you see is a … PUBLIC TOILET! What do you do? Should you wait till you get home or go to the … PUBLIC TOILETS? Then you can’t hold on any longer you tell your parents you're going to the toilet and then race off! When you are inside the … PUBLIC TOILET, you see that it is filthy. You are so shocked but you can’t go out now! Then you have to grab some toilet paper and spread it across the toilet seat, you don’t want to catch other people’s germ from their behind! Do you? Next you gotta use some toilet paper when you finished going, but you see there is only a little bit of toilet paper left! What do you do? You should scream and yell because you are in the Kill Zone! You are doomed! But, if there are paper towels in that same toilet then you are free to use them. It doesn't matter if they hurt it is either that or pull you pants up without wiping honey! After you have finished you have to wash your hands, with extra soap since it is a … PUBLIC TOILET!

Oh and don’t forget to wipe the toilet seat down because you do want to be considerate for other people, even though they might wipe it again anyways. When you finished washing your hands always remember to grab a paper towel, you might ask why, well this helps with hygiene because you know some people don’t wash their hands properly but some don’t even wash their hands! So grab a paper towel and use it to open the door handle or the slide door handle or whatever you have to open! Then you are back into fresh air and out of the horror! And there you are you have successfully used a … Public Toilet!

How To Use The Toilet

How do you use the toilet properly?
Well, this may sound weird and you may think that I am crazy but it is natural for all humans to use the portaloo. Some of you may think that this topic is a bit unusual but hey, its normal for everyone to go and use the convenience.

Okay, the first thing you need to do when you are desperate to go to the ( Dramatic Sound Effect), The Throne Of Death! To ignore dying or catching disgusting germs, you MUST wipe the toilet seat or as I may call it, your ticket to get bad diseases.

Then, you pull down your … . After, you sit down in a comfortable position and finally you can use it. That is why you go there anyway!
Some people may think this is a bit weird but some people enjoy reading while they waiting for the ghost train to come by.

Once you are finished with your business, you rip some toilet paper and wipe yourself. Some people like to fold the toilet paper and others don’t really fold. Although, it is their own decision.

Finally, pull your underthings back up and flush the toilet after you are done. It is SO important that you clean up because well, others may use the same bathroom and they don’t want to find a mess in there!

You’re nearly free to go out to the world and be happy again. However, you have to wash your hands. It is REALLY REALLY important that you ALWAYS wash your hands after you are done. I mean, you do NOT want to get germs from the stinky dungeon.

Some countries use the toilet differently. They provide some weird features to make your experience desirable. For example: In Asia, some countries provide a T.V in each stall, how cool is that!  In America, they provide paper where people can sit on and when finished the paper can be flushed and it is biodegradable.  What do you think? Don’t you think toilets are important? Keep it in mind every time you go.
